Bad Taste O.S.T.

Today is my lady Lindsay's birthday, so in her honor I'm putting up the soundtrack to one of her favorite movies, Peter Jackson's masterpiece Bad Taste. If you have never seen this movie, please, treat yourself to 90 minutes of pure splattery entertainment. Big assed aliens, bowls full of alien vomit, enough splatter to satisfy any horror fan, and enough humor to keep you laughing while simultaneously saying "Eww, Gross!". Did I mention exploding sheep and a hero who has to keep his brains in his head with a belt? I don't want to give much away about this movie, other than it is a classic of the genre, whatever genre it is. I honestly feel that it is one of the rarest of movies, a horror/sci-fi/action/comedy that actually works. Up there with Evil Dead 2, Re-Animator, and Jackson's own Dead Alive as splatter comedies that transcend mere horror/action/comedy genres to become something awesome on its on. A landmark film, it remains Peter Jackson's best film to date, with Dead Alive being a very close 2nd. Highest recommendation, see it now. But first, download the soundtrack.

Happy Birthday Lindsay!

  1. One of my faves too. Splatstick is so hard to do well, and in the wake of the few movies you mention above, so many attempts have just flat out failed (with a few notable exceptions like Shaun Of The Dead). Happy belated birthday to Lindsay!

  2. yes, to many splatstick movies flat out suck...other than the ones i mentioned (and shaun of the dead, which i actually really really liked, surprisingly) theres not many that i can remember as being, um, good. maybe Basket Case could count? I know yr a Henenlotter fan, what do you think?

  3. I don't consider Basket Case a comedy. It's deadly serious man! Maybe Frankenhooker moreso?

  4. frankenhooker perhaps...i know basket case is serious, but you can't deny the unintentional hilarity of some of it. doesn't mean that i don't love it, because it's one of my all time favorites, but it is funny in a way. i haven't seen Bad Biology yet, but i've heard it was good. I'm just glad ol' frank is still making movies.

  5. Bad Biology is great fun. Felt to me like Frank never took 16 years off making movies. Fits in well with his other stuff. Fresh and funny. And of course Basket Case is one of the most unintentionally funny movies ever. I gather you're a massive Robocop fan. Is it just that one or are you a Verhoeven fan in general? I love all his sci fi/horror stuff and I read yesterday that his next one might be a horror movie about a succubus. I'd be stoked to see him return to horror.

  6. i like Verhoeven, even though i've only seen his american films. But i do love Total Recall and Starship Troopers.....don't care so much for Basic Instinct....but yes, I am a HUGE Robocop fan...i was thinking about how awesome a Robocop/Maniac Cop movie/or comic would be the other day...

  7. Yeah, fuck Basic Instinct. Starship Troopers is one of my all time faves. It just rules, so subversive. Total Recall too, cuz I dig P.K. Dick. A Robocop/Maniac Cop mashup would indeed be awesome.

  8. starship troopers...you know why that movie rules so much? verhoeven and ed neumeier working together.

  9. Huh, I had to look him up even though the name was familiar. So that's why Troopers was Verhoeven's most subversive movie since Robocop! Explains a hell of a lot. Both movies share that really cynical and sarcastic political outlook. Attitude wise, pretty punk movies.

  11. I did but wasn't too impressed. I just want Ridley Scott to live long enough to make his FOREVER WAR adaptation, my fave SF novel of all time.Read it?

  12. is that haldeman or however you spell it? i don't think i have read it...my favorite sf novel ever? i dunno...but PKD's "Ubik" would be a crazy movie...so would Harlan Ellison's "The Deathbird".

  13. Yeah, it's Haldeman and I can't recommend it highly enough. I've read quite a few PKD's but not UBIK. I've heard people rave about it before. I've never read any Ellison but always meant to. Is that a good place to start?
